Child Placing Agency |
 |
When
adopting internationally from any country besides Hong Kong, FCCA families will need to select a
child placing agency.
While FCCA will provide the education, home
study, post-placement services and California re-adopt and
finalization services, the child placing agency will provide a child
referral, assist with all travel arrangements, and coordinate
the finalization of the adoption in the foreign country (if
applicable).
Each child placing agency and country has its own requirements for
adoptive applicants regarding issues such as age, marital
status, number in household, minimum income, etc. FCCA does
not set these requirements, so adoptive applicants should
research carefully to determine whether they meet the criteria
for the country and the child placing agency.

Once your
child has traveled home with you from the country of origin, at
least one post-placement/post-adoption visit by an agency social worker will
be required. In most cases, three to six visits will be required,
sometimes within a period of six months, and in other cases, over
a period of several years. FCCA will work with the family and the
child placing agency to determine the number of visits and reports required.
In addition, FCCA will assist the family to either finalize the
adoption, or if it was already finalized in the foreign country,
to re-adopt the child in California so that the adoptive parents
will be listed on a new California birth certificate for the child.
