We equip families with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of foster care adoption in Ventura. FCCA can provide all the services needed including:

Our Unique Ventura Foster Care Adoption Program

One of the best things about working with FCCA is our foster-to-adopt program. Our California Waiting Child Program is at the heart of our mission, also known as "fos-adopt." While most foster-to-adopt programs involve providing temporary care for children with the goal of reunification with their biological families, FCCA takes a unique approach.

In other programs, foster parents may be asked to provide care for a child with the hope of adopting them if reunification is not possible. However, at FCCA, we focus on minimizing the uncertainty of the foster care system.

With FCCA's fos-adopt program, you’re more than just a foster care family. We prioritize placing the child you hope to adopt directly into your home. This means if you’re committed to adopting a child, FCCA will work diligently to match you with a child who is available for adoption, eliminating the uncertainty of fostering to adopt or the possibility of reunification with biological parents.

How to Be a Foster Parent in Ventura

If you’re interested in becoming a foster parent in Ventura, there are five steps you need to take:

Step 1: Attend an Informational Class

Before starting the Ventura foster care adoption process, prospective foster parents are required to attend an informational session. This class is an essential introduction to our agency, fos-adopt program and the foster care adoption process.

During the informational class, you’ll receive comprehensive information about the responsibilities and requirements of foster parenting and adoption. This is where you’ll learn about FCCA's mission, values and the services we provide. Attending this class allows you to understand what to expect and can help you make an informed decision about moving forward with your foster care adoption journey.

Step 2: Complete the home study

Before becoming a foster parent in Ventura, you must have your home certified as a foster home or approved as a Resource Family home, ensuring compliance with all state regulations. The adoption home study encompasses both the process and the final approval document.

This comprehensive assessment includes engaging in training classes, completing required paperwork, participating in individual interviews and hosting an in-home visit with a skilled social worker from FCCA. The home study aims to evaluate your readiness and suitability to provide a loving and secure environment for a foster child while ensuring adherence to legal and safety standards.

Step 3: Search for waiting children

After the approval of your home study, your dedicated social worker at FCCA will search to find the ideal match for your family among children available for foster care adoption in Ventura. Utilizing photo listings and gathering information from various counties, your social worker will carefully review the profiles of children needing permanent homes.

Considering your adoption preferences, they will seek out potential matches who align with your family's dynamics, interests and desires. The goal is to find a child who seamlessly integrates into your family, creating a nurturing and loving environment for their growth and development.

Step 4: Submit an inquiry and receive placement

If a potential match is identified for your family, FCCA will take the necessary steps to submit your approved home study to the county social worker. They will carefully evaluate whether your family is a suitable fit for the child in question. This process may involve a disclosure meeting where you can learn more about the child's background and specific needs.

Upon placing a child in your care, the FCCA worker and the county social worker will conduct monthly visits to your home. The FCCA worker is responsible for interviewing the child privately, ensuring their well-being and addressing any specific concerns or needs they may have.

Step 5: Finalize the adoption

Once a minimum of six months has passed with the child in your home and all parental rights have been terminated, the adoption can be finalized. What sets FCCA apart from other agencies is that we offer the convenience of preparing and filing your finalization paperwork at no cost to you.

After you have signed the necessary documents, we will handle the filing with the court. Once a hearing date has been set, your role will be to appear at the courthouse with your child and celebrate officially welcoming them into your family.

At FCCA, our commitment to you extends beyond finalization. We understand that adoption is a lifelong journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way. We remain available to answer any questions and provide additional resources as needed. You're not just a client but an important part of our extended family.
