The Adoption Foundation

Adoption is more than a single moment. It is a lifelong journey that shapes children, birth parents, and the families who open their hearts and homes. The Adoption Foundation was created to ensure that journey is supported at every stage.

The Adoption Foundation is the charitable wing of Family Connections Christian Adoptions and American Adoptions of California, both affiliates of American Adoptions. Since 1983, we’ve helped create more than 13,000 families and bring decades of experience to the foundation’s mission.

Why the Foundation Exists

Nearly 70,000 children in foster care are waiting to be adopted. On average, they will wait about three years for a family, and some will never be adopted.

At FCA, we see firsthand what those years can mean for children and families.

That is why the Adoption Foundation is working to create more opportunities for adoption at every stage. We are helping expectant parents understand private adoption before foster care becomes necessary, building partnerships that can reach children already in the system and supporting birth parents, adoptive families and adoptees after adoption.

How the Foundation Works

While American Adoptions of California and Family Connections guide birth parents and adoptive families through the adoption process, the Foundation focuses on the broader work of expanding adoption awareness, supporting children waiting for families, and strengthening the adoption community.

Together, they share one mission: making a child’s life better through adoption.

What the Foundation Supports

Expanding Adoption Awareness

For some children, years of waiting can be prevented.

When expectant parents and the professionals supporting them understand private adoption as an option, a child may be able to go directly to an adoptive family rather than entering foster care.

This year, training supported by this effort helped 8 children go directly to adoptive families instead of entering the foster care system. Compared with an average three-year wait, that represents as many as 24 years of childhood no longer spent waiting.

Removing Barriers to Adoption

Prevention is where this work starts, but it isn’t where it ends.

Through the Adoption Foundation, we can expand partnerships, reach more children and families and strengthen the counseling, education and support available to people throughout the adoption journey.

Supporting Children in Foster Care

Providing gap funding and resources for children in foster care who need additional assistance while waiting for a permanent family.

Strengthening Lifelong Outcomes

Investing in counseling, education, and community programs that support children, birth parents, and adoptive families well beyond placement.

• Share Your Story: Your experience as an adoptive family is one of the most powerful tools we have. A written story, a quote, a video shot on your phone, or a podcast conversation can help a birth mother see what is possible and give a waiting family the hope they need to take the next step.
• Talk with Other Families: Sometimes the most meaningful thing is a real conversation. Whether it is a couple just starting the adoption process or a family navigating life after placement, your perspective matters in ways no brochure ever could.
• Leave a Google Review: A five-minute review puts adoption in front of people actively searching for answers. It is one of the simplest things you can do and one of the most far-reaching.
