How Do Safe Surrender and Same-Day Adoption Compare?

Have you ever wondered what your baby’s life could look like—who they might become, and who might raise them with love? The choice you make today can shape that future. We’re not here to pressure you. We’re here to talk, to listen, and to help you understand what’s available—so you can make the decision that feels right.

Let’s Talk Support

Safe Surrender: This is a legal way to safely and anonymously leave your baby at a designated location within 72 hours of birth. No paperwork is required, and you won’t receive any updates or support after surrendering your baby.

Same-Day Adoption: Same-day adoption gives you more than just legal protection. It includes help with essentials like housing and food, and emotional support from someone who truly understands. Our team is here for you anytime, even after placement.

Let’s Talk Choice

Safe Surrender:

  • After 14 days, it’s a final goodbye
  • No say in where your baby goes or who raises them

Same-Day Adoption:

  • You pick the family, and how private or open the adoption is
  • You decide if you want photos, updates, or future contact
  • You create a plan for your baby’s future

Let’s Talk About You

You deserve to know all your options. You deserve to feel supported, not judged. You deserve to make a decision that’s about love—not fear. Ask yourself this: if there was a way to stay connected, feel supported, and know your baby is safe—would you want to know more?

What Is the California Safe Surrender Law?

It’s simple: California’s Safely Surrendered Baby Law allows you to safely hand over your baby—72 hours old or younger—to staff at any participating hospital, fire station, or sheriff’s station. No questions asked. No arrest. No name required.

Locations in L.A. County:

  • Any ER at a county hospital
  • Fire stations with the blue Safe Surrender logo
  • Some sheriff’s offices and police stations (check signage)

It’s legal. It’s confidential. And it’s there if you need it.

What Happens After You Surrender?

After a Safe Surrender, your baby will receive immediate medical care to ensure their health and safety. Child Protective Services (CPS) is then notified, and your baby is placed in temporary foster care with a family equipped to meet their needs.

You have 14 days to change your mind and reclaim your parental rights if you choose. After that window closes, the surrender becomes permanent, and you won’t be involved in your baby’s future or receive any updates.

Even though the process is anonymous, there are rare situations where family inquiries may lead CPS to disclose information.

What Makes Same-Day Adoption Different?

It’s not just about what happens today—it’s about what happens next. What if you could give your baby a safe, loving future and still receive the support you need to heal and move forward?

When you choose adoption with a local agency like FCCA, you get more than just legal protection. You get:

  • A say in your baby’s future,
  • Help with rent, food, clothes, and medical needs,
  • Access to emotional and mental health support,
  • The ability to stay in touch if you want to, and
  • Assurance your baby goes straight to a permanent, loving home.

This path isn’t about letting go—it’s about letting love lead.

How Same-Day Adoption Works in L.A.

  1. Reach out. Whether you're overwhelmed, uncertain, or just curious, starting the conversation is the first step. There’s no pressure—just a compassionate ear and honest information.
  2. Talk to a local adoption specialist. We’ll listen, answer your questions, and explain your options without judgment.
  3. Explore family profiles. You can browse waiting families who’ve been carefully screened—or let us help you find a match based on what matters most to you.
  4. Create your adoption plan. Want an open adoption with ongoing contact? Prefer something more private? This part is entirely up to you.
  5. Move forward when you’re ready. You decide the timing, and we’ll be here for emotional and practical support after placement, too.

Make a Plan with FCCA — Safe. Compassionate. Local.

Why Some Women Choose Adoption over Safe Surrender

Some birth parents need the simplicity of Safe Surrender. And that’s okay. But others feel the pull for more—to know, to choose, to connect.

Adoption isn’t about giving up. It’s about giving your baby the kind of future you dream of—even if you can’t give it yourself right now. And what if—just maybe—you could see that future unfold, through pictures, letters, or even visits? That kind of peace is possible.

Many women share that adoption brought them healing. That knowing their child is loved and thriving brought comfort in the hardest moments. And that through it all—they were never alone.

You Deserve to Feel Safe and Supported

Whether you just gave birth or your due date is near—whether you’re feeling heartbreak, fear, anger, or numbness—you don’t have to carry this by yourself.

There is help. There is choice. There is a path forward that can feel right in your heart.

So ask yourself: What kind of future do you want—for your baby, and for yourself?
